Green-space Project
Operating Theatre Live was a workshop provided by Aspire to
Inspire, for Year 11 triple Science students in addition to Sixth
form Biology and Chemistry students and those involved in the
Medical Society.
Delivered by Anatomist Sam and supported by a long serving
theatre nurse Hannah, the day took us through human
anatomy and the workings of parts of the brain, lungs and
digestive system. Students removed parts from a plastic human
body shell to autopsy and do minor surgery. Groups worked
in teams of 6 to carry out these tasks and completed a theory
Biology or Chemistry task alongside this.
During the experience, students had the opportunity to learn
about the qualifications and personal qualities needed to
pursue a career in the medical profession. This serves to help
them make more informed choices about their future.
It was anexcellent workshop, related to the curriculum but also
able to offer first-hand knowledge and guidance to our Future
Medics. Some did report that it had made them think twice
about a direct medical career and others can’t wait to apply.
One student said it was a “thrilling experience, it was worth
every second!” Science teacher Dierdre O’Brien commented:
“This is such a fantastic, once in a lifetime experience for our
students”

Business Studies Marketing Project
Year 12 Business Studies pupils have been working hard on their marketing topic with Mrs. Hawkins this term, focusing on their
entrepreneurial and financial skills. Pupils were given the challenge of re-branding and costing out a new product which they
would launch within the marketplace.
The Nature Zone
Northampton Academy is pleased to be working with Groundworks UK on ‘The Nature Zone’ - a neglected space at the back
of our building. Led by Mr Windsor and with the help of Stuart from Groundworks UK, groups of students will be working to
transform this space into an allotment and pond dipping area, which will be of great benefit to the school and will serve as an
outside classroom. Students will gain valuable learning experiences from this on-going project. Keep an eye out for an update on
how they get on in the next newsletter.
Mr. Parnell commented: “I will know this project has been a great success when I have my first omelette from Northampton
Academy chickens!”
