Red Nose Day
On Friday 24th March, Northampton Academy held a day of entertainment for Red Nose Day
2017. This was one of the best fund-raisers we have ever done. Over the past few weeks, the
School Council have been busy organising host of activities for the day.
The day itself was packed with fundraising fun and started in the morning when students came
to school wearing red, making a change from their usual school uniforms.
Next up was a cake sale at break time, which was so popular that the cakes sold out within
five minutes!
In the hall at break time, students were treated to Mr. Parnell’s surprise. Students had the opportunity to quiz Mr. Parnell on a
series of general knowledge questions - all of which he got wrong, resulting in him being ‘gunged’ by students who held the
winning raffle tickets. The School Council would like to thank Mr. Parnell for being such a good sport.
For the rest of the staff, as well as coming to school in 1980’s themed fancy dress, the tables were turned with teachers putting
their skills to the test in a talent show contest judged by the students. In addition to singing and dancing, the show featured
jokes from Mr. Atkinson, a Trombone solo from Mr. Leveridge, a piano piece from Mr. Parnell and a marshmallow eating challenge
from Mr Haig. The show was won by ‘Bon Jovi’ with their wonderful rendition of ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ and ‘Girls Just Wanna Have
Fun’ came a close second.
Lisa Hawkins, a teacher at Northampton Academy, praised students for their involvement in the day, saying: “We are a caring
school with inspirational pupils who want to give something back to people who are less fortunate than themselves’.
We raised over £1035 during the course of the day and this is now being spent by
Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives, both here in the UK and Africa.
