ePraise
Rewarding Students
ePraise - Our School Rewards System
This term we have launched our new rewards system for students, ‘ePraise’. Students are awarded praise points (previously
known as house points) for doing something well. This might be for working really hard on a piece of work and behaviour,
helpfulness towards staff or other students, or anything else that staff and prefects deem to be deserving of points.
Principal’s Commendation Award
At Northampton Academy, we like to recognise outstanding students. In addition to
our ePraise system, we have our Principal’s Commendation Award.
On a monthly basis each member of teaching staff nominates one student of the
month for the Principal’s Commendation. This must be a young person who has
gone truly ‘above and beyond’.
All the nominations get put into a draw during assembly, one name gets drawn out
and the winner receives a prize of a £10 Amazon voucher.
All the names of the nominated students get placed on the Principal’s
Commendation board in the main canteen area.
Mr. Parnell said, “ePraise
has proved to be an instant
hit with the young people
and staff of the Academy.
It is so positive to be able
to recognise and highlight
where students have met
and exceeded our high
expectations. The thing I am most proud of is that over 30% of the ePraise points have been spent on altruistic rewards, such as
mosquito nets for the third world, rather than anything that would directly benefit the students themselves. This is a testament
to what I see every day at the Academy: young people who care deeply about the world and other people and wish to make a
difference in their own modest way.”
How does ePraise work?
Staff or prefects issue
praise points using stickers
containing unique codes.
Students then input their
codes into the ePraise system
and they turn into praise
points, which can be spent in
the ePraise shop on a number
of different rewards. There is a suggestions tab for prizes for
the shop, these suggestions are taken on board and acted
upon if possible.
Points can be spent on a variety of different items such as
table tennis bats and balls, pens and pencils, erasers and
other useful stationery. There is an option to donate points to
charitable causes, or tickets can be bought for entry into the
prize draw to win prizes such as an Urban Beauty Vanity Case,
Beats headphones and even a mountain bike!
