New Prefects Appointed
We are pleased to announce the appointment of our
new prefects at Northampton Academy.
Year 11 students were recently invited to apply for this position
and we had a great response, with over forty applicants
for the initial twelve positions available. Each application
was assessed and twenty-two students were short-listed.
The final twenty-two went through a rigorous selection
process including an interview, during which they had some
challenging questions put to them.
The prefects will each be on duty for one day per week,
assisting the duty staff in the courtyard at lunch and break
time and will be identified by their new purple ties. Prefects
will be able to award a number of ‘praise points’ to their peers
as they see fit and they will have the privilege of joining the
front of the lunch queues. They will act as role models for other
students and will be ambassadors for the Academy and will be
expected to attend and assist at school events when necessary.
The first twelve prefects were chosen and announced in
assembly, and then due to the high standard of applications,
a further nine were appointed just one week later. All have
earned their new status by impressing the panel with their
attitude, hard work and dedication.
Mr. Parnell said: “It is so important that we highlight our
Year 11 students who are the very best role models for the
rest of the students in the Academy. As such we have chosen
a selection of students who behave excellently, dress very
smartly, have a high attendance record, arrive on time, and
work hard in their studies. These students demonstrate the
qualities and confidence that will make them very attractive
candidates for colleges, universities and
prospective employers.”
Courtyard Games
During the winter break, in preparation for our new single
lunch, a number of table football and table tennis tables were
installed in the courtyard.
These are a great addition and the students enjoy this new
facility on a daily basis - and are often seen playing at the end
of the school day too!
Table tennis bats and balls
are available from Student
Reception to purchase, and
they can also be purchased
using praise points.
