Luke, Olivier, Joshim and Reece came joint 1st in the Top of the Bench Chemistry competition, with a high score of 39/43. This qualified them for the regional finals at the University of Derby.
At the finals, the boys competed against twelve other schools from the region. The competition consisted of an incredibly tough chemistry paper, followed by a difficult, rigorous practical activity provided by the chemical company Lubrizol.
Then followed an amazing demonstration of the different colourful oxidation states of various metals, followed by lunch and prize giving.
The boys missed out on placement, but they had a fantastic day and did extremely well to beat off competition to make it to the finals.
