Admissions Information

Thank you for your interest in Northampton Academy. We are a large, mixed secondary school with an academic Sixth Form serving the eastern side of Northampton. We are proud to be a good local community school, and our aim is to ensure that every student makes good or outstanding progress. This section of our website is designed for parents who are considering this academy for their children as well as parents whose children are due to start in the next academic year.

Year 7 Admissions

Our normal admission year is Year 7, when we admit students from a wide range of primary schools. Applications for admission are made via the Northamptonshire Co-ordinated Admissions scheme.

The application portal for parents and carers to submit their school preference for September 2025 intake (Year 7) has now opened at www.westnorthants.gov.uk/admissions.

Parents have until 31st October to apply, any application received by School Admissions after 31st October will be considered as late and won’t be processed until April 2025 onwards.

The Local Authority will advise of notification of places on National Offer Day, 3rd March 2025, or the next working day (subject to Weekends/Bank Holidays). This will tell you if you have been successful in obtaining a place.

Waiting List

Where there are more applications than the number of places available, a waiting list will operate until 31st December. The list will be kept in strict order according to the oversubscription admissions criteria. If a place becomes available and there is no one on the waiting list, the place will be offered to the next applicant. The waiting list will be open to any parent/carer to ask for his/her child’s name to be placed on the waiting list, following an unsuccessful application to the Academy and to parents/carers who have not previously applied for a place during the academic year but have been refused.

Our waiting lists are held by West Northants Council School Admissions Team, please contact them should you wish for your child to be added to the waiting list.

Appeals and In Year Admissions

We participate in the Local Authority Co-ordinated Scheme for In Year admissions and operate a waiting list for admissions in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. If a space becomes available, spaces are allocated according to our over subscription admissions criteria, from the waiting list.
