We are very excited to have completed the STEM selection process for next year's Nucleus Gifted STEM Stream cohort. We received over 80 applications for up to 20 places available in Year 7 and Year 8 in September 2018.
Students wishing to be considered for a place completed an aptitude assessment which judged their skills in spatial awareness, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning.
The successful students were then invited to attend an interview where they had to present to a visiting University Professor, Mr Parnell and Mr Swallow. The presentations lasted for five minutes on a STEM topic the students found interesting.
We are pleased to say that the students who presented did incredibly well. We saw presentations on rockets, lava lamps, renewable energy (with the added bonus of a working battery made of limes), how to solve a Rubik's cube and nutraceutical ice cream.
The process was an extremely challenging one and was of an incredibly high standard. All of the ambitious students who applied should be extremely proud of themselves and we are truly delighted that they are, or are going to be students of Northampton Academy.
