On Thursday, December 17th, we celebrated My Culture Day at Northampton Academy, a wonderful celebration of the diversity that we have at Northampton Academy and a fantastic way to end the term.
Students began the day reading an extract from Refugee Boy by Benjamin Zefaniah.
During the day, various members of staff shared with students some interesting insights into their own cultures. Students also enjoyed a connection with students and the Principal at Trivandram International School in Kerala, India. This is a school we have developed links with as part of our Character programme, and who we will be working with more during 2021.
Students were able to try some food from different cultures produced by our talented canteen staff. There was a selection of treats ranging from delicious vegetable curry to Piri-Piri chicken, lamingtons to toad in the hole. Also, at lunchtime students got to see some of our Year 10 students perform some Bollywood dancing which was ably supported by Mrs Ashton.
We were also delighted to announce a huge number of student leadership opportunities this term, more of which will be coming in the new year. We were pleased to announce our Junior Anti-Bullying Leaders in Years 7, 8 and 9; our new Wellbeing Ambassadors in Year 9, and the elected students to form our Student Leadership Team (STLT). Driven in school by Mr Leafe, student leadership opportunities will continue to grow into next year.
My Culture Day was a phenomenal and hugely positive end to a challenging term for all.
