In true Northampton Academy style, we have been celebrating the diversity and character of our school. 'My Culture Day' was a celebration of students and staff from nearly every continent speaking over 60 languages.
We believe that true character education means more than just following a certain course of study; it is the harmonious development of the entire individual.
As an Academy of Character and Excellence, part of our goal is to help our diverse community to reflect on what it means to be tolerant and respectful. Tolerance and Respect are two of our Character Pillars in Northampton Academy.
The day was divided into four themes:
- The Power of Babel (the importance of language and language diversity)
- On the Move! (Looks at patterns of migration and seeks to answer; why do people move?)
- The World in Our Kitchen! (Looks at the changing nature of food and the impact of other culture on British food).
Thank you to our guest speakers Shantha Rao Bharata Natyyam Dancer and Storyteller and Paralympian Derek Darenalagi.
Students enjoyed street food tasters at break time, with foods from around the world, a concert took place at lunchtime.
Proceeds from the Mufti-Day will go partly to Comic Relief and partly to one of our partners: Build Africa.
