Year 9 Nucleus STEM students visited Bletchley Park to investigate the different types of encryption techniques that were used in the war as well as in today’s society.
The students were then given a tour of Bletchley Park, discovering how people were chosen to become part of the elite enigma team. They visited the offices that the workers used and discovered their working conditions were not that great, despite the hard work that they were putting in. The students were able to play with an artificial version of the Bombe machine and investigate some of the most famous names including Alan Turing.
Students were able to use a simulated enigma machine to crack some of the codes but were able to see a real enigma machine up close and personal. They were placed under time pressure to crack the code and by working together as a team they were able to solve it.
