As a result of their excellent Sports Leadership across the academic Year, the Year 9-13 Sports Leaders were invited to represent Team Northampton, Leading the KS2 ‘Get Active Festival’ at the Northamptonshire County Summer Games.
After a busy planning meeting, the leaders selected the activities they wanted to deliver, created session plans, and arrived early to set themselves up. Having never worked with students as young as KS2 before, there were certainly some nerves going into the event and the first rotation or two where certainly steep learning curves, however in typical NA style, the leaders showed resilience and determination to adapt quickly and recognise the needs of the young participants.
It was wonderful to see their leadership progress so significantly within the space of one event. This event also gave us, as a team a chance to say a huge thank you and goodbye to some of our teammates. As Isaac and Emilija move into Year 11, their opportunity to be so involved in these events will reduce; both Isaac and Emilja have been exemplary leaders who have been committed, responsible and consistently outstanding role models to the younger leaders, we hope to see them again for further training and future opportunities within our Sixth Form. It is also a very heartfelt thank you and goodbye to Abbie (Yr 13). Abbie began her leadership training in Year 5 at one of our link primary schools and continued in the role upon arrival in Year 7. Abbie has taken every opportunity available to her, moving from NA leader to county and National level leader. Abbie has always been willing to go the extra mile, and her contributions to the team will be very much missed, but we wish her luck as she heads off to university in September.
If any student is interested in joining our fantastic team of Sports Leaders at Northampton Academy, we will be recruiting from the end of September for the next academic year, so look out for an open ‘audition’ session or come and speak to Mrs Carter-Morris in the PE Department.
