On Wednesday, November 9th, we held the annual Elite Sports Parents & Athletes Evening.
Mr Clyne opened the event, and Mr Hollyhead outlined the aims, objectives and medium to long-term plans for all 109 Athletes.
He said:
“Northampton Academy Elite Sports Programme offers boys and girls with an exceptional talent for football or netball a unique opportunity to develop their ability in a holistic approach, in conjunction with their mainstream curriculum”.
The coaches who lead the respective sports were also in attendance, namely Michele Hudson, our netball coach, Reece Platt and Nathan Dorman, who coach our football cohorts. They were able to explain the rationale for the year ahead.
Given that selection for Elite Sports is based on attendance, behaviour, and ultimately, character, we were thrilled to be joined by our special guest Manisha Tailor MBE. As the Assistant Head of Coaching at Queens Park Rangers, Manisha is the first female and person of South Asian heritage to hold such a role in the English game. She spoke passionately about her inspirational journey and how our school values have helped her get to where she is today, emphasising the importance of ‘good character’ in her success story.
Mr Hollyhead said:
“Manisha’s speech was captivating, and you could hear a pin drop in the Hall whilst she explained the importance of determination, ambition, integrity, respect and resilience in her career journey.”
