On Thursday, 17th October, the History Department welcomed local historian and Battlefield Guide Terry Whenham to talk to Year 9 History students.

Terry grew up in the local area and has conducted extensive research around the First World War. The students were fortunate to receive a fully interactive talk from Terry to discuss some of his research, including highlighting the stories of soldiers William McFadzean and Horace Iles Horace Iles. Both men fought and died in the Battle of the Somme, which year 9 have been learning about in their first half term.

Terry brought various artefacts and equipment to show the students which helped give an insight into the weapons used and the challenges they faced. All Year 9 students found the talk enjoyable and informative.Terry will be joining the History Department again on the very popular Belgium and Normandy tours for Year 9 in July.
