Talent Outreach Lead of the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office, Mandy Browning, visited Northampton Academy students. She shared information about the work she and her colleagues undertake on behalf of the government.
The FDCO Services protect UK interests worldwide and are primarily a STEM organisation. Areas of work include detecting listening devices in government buildings, building embassies all over the work, radars for the MoD and delivering high-security packages to 168 countries. In addition, they support the IT for Downing Street to provide Covid updates, set up servers that store sensitive data, design and install security systems.
Mandy shared that they are a top 100 apprenticeship employer and offer placements once per year. There are apprenticeships in 12 different areas of the business, from Level 2 to Level 4. Based in Milton Keynes, they are accessible to students in Northamptonshire.
Mandy offered a great insight into the opportunities provided by this government department, detailing opportunities in career development and travel. We look forward to working with Mandy again in the future.
