This year has seen us start embedding a provision at Northampton Academy to develop the character of our students, starting with our core values of Respect, Determination and Ambition.
One of the five pillars of United Learning’s approach to running excellent schools is the development of Education with Character.
Just as we want pupils to leave here with excellent qualifications, we also want them to leave us as confident and ambitious young adults with a good understanding of the world around them.
Whilst we are proud of the important focus we place on academic excellence, we believe that children need a breadth of opportunities and experiences in order to become confident, well-rounded and ambitious young adults.
During this term, we are part of a pilot of United Learning schools looking to focus more on Education with Character, which we will be building on even further in the future. As part of United Learning, we are able to access group-wide activities and opportunities, as well as be encouraged to develop our own. Some of the events which have taken place recently are:
- Anti-Bullying Ambassador Training
- Market a Penguin Workshop
- Medical Mavericks Workshop
- STEM Bloodhound Challenge
- Maximise Your Potential
- National Careers Week Celebrations
- Tomorrows Engineers Robotic Challenge
- World Book Day
- Street Dance Competition
- Various Sports Fixtures
- Sports Leaders Training
If your child has taken part in any of these activities, we do hope you will take the time to speak to them about it and encourage them to do more.
Your feedback is always encouraged, if you would like to share any thoughts, ideas or feedback on the Education with Character initiative with us please email l.salmons@northampton-academy.org.
In July, Mr Clyne gave a presentation to parents an carers which gave an overview of our journey so far and where we intend it to go, along with advice on what you can do to support at home as we move quickly toward our vision of being ‘An Academy of Excellence and Character’.
