Rachel Adams, a solicitor and partner of DFA Law firm, visited Northampton Academy as our latest 'Breakfast With A Professional' guest. Year 11, 12 and 13 students attended to hear how Rachel attained her current position.
Rachel was keen to impress upon students that a career in law is achievable by anybody willing to apply themselves to study and eager to develop skills by undertaking new challenges. Rachel also confirmed that a university law degree is not the only route into the profession. Rachel herself studied English at university, preferring to study a subject she was passionate about before studying law as a post-graduate qualification. Some people study law whilst working in law practices, whilst others may opt for a degree apprenticeship. The important message is that there are different ways to succeed in a career in law.
The session concluded with a brief Q & A session. In answer to a question about how to make your CV stand out, Rachel confirmed that employers favour applicants who can evidence their skills and experiences, alongside their qualifications. Rachel advised cultivating a variety of work experiences alongside gaining high grades to develop interpersonal skills ready for the step into employment.
Northampton Academy Careers Department would like to thank Rachel for generously providing her time and advice and looks forward to welcoming her back soon.
