Year 9 students recently enjoyed an informative talk, delivered by World War One expert Terry Whenham, who was representing The ABF Soldiers Charity. The event was organised and hosted by our History department.
Students heard all about the Battle of the Somme, after which Terry showed off some genuine artefacts from the battlefields, including a British Brodie helmet, German barbed wire and deadly shell shrapnel. Students were invited to ask questions and Terry was able to describe the use of gas on the battlefield, the role of women on the Western Front and the chain of evacuation used to rescue injured soldiers.
History teacher Mr Rush said. "I would like to thank Terry for coming in to speak to our students, the event went very well, with lots of questions and interest from the keen group of historians who attended."
