Northampton Academy was honoured to welcome Bonita Norris, the worlds youngest person to climb to the summit of Mount Everest and reach the North Pole.
Bonita gave a motivating and inspirational talk to students, encouraging them to have the confidence to step outside their comfort zone to achieve their goals. Bonita described how she was first inspired to take on Everest, the obstacles she overcame and the story of how she achieved her goal, driven mainly by her sheer determination and ambition.
The ten minutes spent at the summit she will always remember, saying “I’ll never forget the amazing stars above us or the pain and exhaustion of climbing in the death zone, then the sunrise illuminating the curvature of the Earth.” Bonita has since broken mountaineering records, and in 2012 became the third British woman to ever climb the world’s 4th highest peak, Mt Lhotse; considered to be a technically much more difficult climb than Everest.
More information about Bonita’s amazing achievements along with photos of her adventures can be found on her website http://www.bonita-norris.com, where her book “The girl who climbed Everest” is available to order.
