The Uni Club project connects postgraduate students from the University of Northampton with secondary school students from Year 9, with the aim of preparing them for the world of higher education. As part of the six weeks of sessions, the postgraduate students will discuss the chosen subject for their PhD or MA thesis with the group. This year students will be learning about ‘Gothic Literature’ and the ‘Importance of safe practice when using social and digital media.’
Students toured the campus, exploring the state-of-the-art facilities and learning about what higher education can offer. A session on careers followed, where students examined and compared professions with contrasting pay and working conditions, providing in-depth insights into a variety of job roles. The day ended with a seminar linked to the groups’ subject of study. This gave students a real feel for what a university education involves and provided inspirational insights which we hope will elevate their aspirations in the years to come.
