Students Present Cheque to The Hope Centre

Categories: Latest Academy News, Featured

Students from Northampton Academy visited the Hope Centre in Northampton to present a cheque for £1463.40 on behalf of the school.

As part of the Northampton Academy’s education with character programme, this year the school has embarked on a year of service to the community, known to students as ‘Community Matters’. The programme is designed to encourage engaged responsible citizenship, contributing to the common good.

The main fundraising event was the Winter Fair, which took place in December as a thank you to students to mark the end of term. Students enjoyed free activities such as penalty shoots, bouncy castle, Sumo suits, bungee run, gladiator, FIFA, chess, pool and much more.

They also had the opportunity to visit stands, mainly organised and ran by the Sixth Form, where they could take part in mini-games, buy sweets, cakes and biscuits or have their nails manicured for a small donation.

Included in the total were funds raised from the Sixth Form pool tournament and proceeds from a raffle which took place during the Christmas Cracker performing arts showcase.

In addition to the money raised, the Sixth Form Leadership Team organised a whole school donation of items such as non-perishable food, toiletries, clothes and other essentials.

The school would like to thank all the students and staff for all their hard work organising these events and also the parents and carers who have donated so generously.

Head girl Andreea Hobeanu, who helped to organise the fundraising said:

“Homelessness is a huge issue that needs to be addressed and tackled. The Hope Centre does an incredible job helping some of the most vulnerable in society. It is important for us to recognise our own privilege and do what we can to help others.”

Tanya Haji-Miller from The Hope Centre sent her thanks to all who contributed saying:
"We really appreciate the donation, it will make such a difference to the people we support. We would like to thank all who contributed".
