Well done to Year 7 Nucleus student Eve, who travelled to Hull to take part in the Dunlop English Junior Squash Championships, here is her report:
My Squash Weekend - by Eve P
On the weekend of March 5th-8th, my Mum and I, along with others from Lings Squash Club travelled up to Hull, to compete in the Dunlop English Junior Championships. On the way up to Hull, I felt a little bit nervous but also excited.
The games played are based on your England Squash ranking. My current ranking in Girls Under 13s is 24. When you do well or win your tournaments, you gain points, the more points you get the higher up the rankings you go.
My first match was on Friday, I played the girl who is currently ranked number 17 in the country. I lost that one but it was a really good match. That afternoon I was lucky enough to have a bye, which put me into the next round.
On Saturday I had two matches both versus people named Kate. The first match I lost, but the second match I won against someone from my own club. Lastly, I played against the number 25 in the country, to whom I am closely ranked. I took the first game 11-5, she took the second and third 11-8 and 12-10 respectively. I took the next one 11-9, then lost the decider 11-9.
I played my best and was very disappointed to lose but I am determined to keep training and hopefully beat her next time we meet.
