Northampton Academy English department welcomed Steve Smith, Head of Global Marketing: Energy Management Communication and Thought Leadership at Schneider Electric. As a drive to encourage our high ability/able pupils in English (HAPS), the English HAPS lead, Mr Mclaughlin, gratefully received Mr Smith’s keynote speech to our aspiring English students. Without the amazing support and connections of our Key Stage 5 lead, Mrs Ullmann, this amazing opportunity could not have been achieved.
Steve, who has over 25 years of experience in Marketing and Communications, primarily in energy management, spoke to the highly engaged Year 10 audience about the importance of communication and the opportunities students could achieve if they continue to study English to A level or higher education.
He spoke in depth about the challenges faced in the energy sector to deliver more energy whilst reducing the environmental impact. In his role at Schneider Electric, he communicates that message in ways that resonate with government, industrial giants, SMEs and the wider public.
He spoke of his career journey from being inspired by a popular breakfast cereal packet as a child, through to the opportunities to travel around the globe to communicate with stakeholders and deliver his engaging and award-winning content with solid collaboration between regional teams, businesses, and communities.
Steve completed a Bachelor’s degree in International Marketing before studying Sales and Marketing at the Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Normandy, France.
