On Wednesday 4th March our Year 9 STEM10 team took to the road to enter the Regional Heat of Tomorrow’s Engineer Robotic Competition.
As a team, they participated in a variety of robotic challenges including presentations, robot creation and design and an on the spot teamwork challenge.
The judges were impressed with their confidence, their adaptability and resilience, their teamwork and the iterations of their robot in addition to their actual robot design and performance.
They were delighted to be awarded the top trophy, competing against around 8 other schools. They would have been competing in the National Finals at the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham, but unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Update - March 19th 2020 - The Final Results are In!
As the finals had to be cancelled - the overall national results have been compiled based on how the teams scored in their regional heats. Over 550 teams took part around the UK and 52 teams were due to attend the UK final.
The organisers said:
"Normally, we’d announce the Robotics Challenge winners from a stage at The Big Bang Fair, with fanfare, applause and maybe even some indoor fireworks. This year is not as normal, but we hope that the results will bring a smile to some faces today.

The Robotics Challenge aims to help students build their STEM skills and discover possible STEM careers, whilst providing them with the opportunity to build their skills and confidence in teamwork, communication and problem-solving. We’re delighted to have had your team in the Challenge this year and hope they are inspired to continue their journey in STEM.
The Robotics Challenge team is working from home as per government guidance, which means we can’t send out prizes just now, but we will do in due course.

Northampton Academy would like to congratulate the Nucleus STEM 10 team on this success, to rank 10th place in the country is an accomplishment to be very proud of.
