On Saturday 19th January three Northampton Academy Students took the trip over to Corby to participate in the annual County Cross Country Championships. The students were selected for the ‘Northampton Town’ team following excellent performances in the recent town championships and were hopeful of equally good performances in these longer, more challenging races.
With recent wet weather, the courses were pretty heavy going and only got worse as the races progressed and more runners passed through. First up were our two competitors in the Senior Boys Race (Yr 10 & 11). George, an experienced distance runner and Scott, a relative newcomer to the sport. Both performed well, showing good decision making and tactics throughout their runs, to place them a very credible 27th and 20th respectively in a large field of competitors.
Next up in the Senior Girls Race, was Mia B. We had high hopes for Mia’s race off the back of some excellent performances in the lead up in county Park Runs. As we would expect Mia ran a very poised, confident and well-timed race bringing her home in 13th place, securing a spot on the County Team at the upcoming ‘Intercounty Championships’. Huge congratulations to all three competitors, but especially to Mia and we wish her good luck for her upcoming county debut.
