On Saturday 9th June three students from Northampton Academy travelled to Corby to represent Northampton Town in the annual Athletics County Championships.
All three students had already competed in the recent district championships (see separate report here >>>) finishing top two in their events to qualify for their place on the town team - a huge achievement in itself.
We saw some fantastic performances on the day:
Mia in Year 10 finished 7th in a very close inter girls' 1500m race, she ran with excellent tactics and technique throughout.
Year 9 student Dammy threw a very credible 7.40m in the junior girls' shot putt, which saw her achieve 4th place.
However, performance(s) of the day go to Year 9 student Pharell who placed 3rd in the junior boys' discus and absolutely smashed the field in a thrilling 300m race to become County Champion!!! An incredible feat for a relative newcomer to the sport. Pharell has now been selected to represent Northamptonshire at the Masons Trophy at the international track in Birmingham on Saturday 16th June.
Well done to all and good luck Pharell!
