Year 9 student Abbie recently picked up the runners-up award in both the 'Young Volunteer of the Year' and 'Young Sportswoman of the Year' categories at the Northampton Leisure Trust Annual Sports Awards. Abbie, a keen and talented golfer, also won the Overstone Park Ladies 'Most Improved Player' award.
On top of all this Abbie has also been awarded a Golf England Grant to help with her training and equipment, in addition to being asked to be a young ambassador for Golf England.
Abbie began playing golf around 3 years ago as part of Overstone’s ‘School Scholarship Programme’ with Lings Primary School. She has continued to improve her skills, which has led to her being recognised for these three awards and her improvement was one of the reasons why she volunteered in the first place.
Abbie wants to give back to the club and the school that helped her become a very gifted golfer, so her volunteer work is based at both Overstone Park Golf Club and Lings Primary School, helping youngsters develop their own golfing skills. She also enjoys being one of the Sports Leaders here at Northampton Academy.
In regards to her future golfing aspirations, Abbie says that she just wants to ‘keep improving her game and to keep giving back to the golfing community.’ It’s very possible that Abbie could become the next Charley Hull!
