It was a nice day on 13th March. The sun was shining as the Duston team arrived at the Northampton Academy. The only thing better than the weather was the game.
The Academy kicked off positively as, after 5 minutes, a long ball over the top was poorly cleared by Duston which lead to Tyler Weatherall almost scoring a spectacular lob over the keeper. However, all the next chances were created and scored by Duston.
The first being when Isiaha Morgan accidentally gave the ball away deep in the Academy’s half and Duston easily put the ball past the Academy goalkeeper Billy. The next was a simple but well-placed cross across the home side’s box which was tapped in. The last being a perfectly weighted ball that was played to their star player who finished easily. Pulling it back for even a point was a tall order for the boys in blue, but Tyler started by latching onto a shot from Isiaha and finishing with a good volley. Isiaha then scored an outstanding long shot to make the half time score: Northampton Academy 2-3 Duston School.
The second half was filled with end to end play constantly. Both linesmen had to make some tough offside decisions as long balls over the top were the norm (I was one of the linesmen myself). It seemed then that the game would end with all 3 points going to Duston. Both our wingers were always putting in crosses, but to no avail. Then Tolu struck gold, as he nicely controlled a cross and kicked the ball as hard as he could into the roof of the net. The Academy had got the point they wanted even though they were three goals down at one point.
Final Score: Northampton Academy 3-3 Duston School.
