Year 7 Student Selflessly Donates Hair to Charity

Categories: Latest Academy News, Featured

Everyone at Northampton Academy is incredibly proud of our Year 7 student, Niamh, who recently donated 17 inches of her own hair to The Little Princess Trust.

Niamh wanted to help those who have sadly lost their hair due to cancer treatments, and the Little Princess Trust charity make and provide real hair wigs free of charge.

Niamh's fundraising efforts were recognised by the Academy in the form of a Character Caught award, an initiative in place to recognise the outstanding work of our students who go above and beyond to help others in need.

Niamh’s parents also set up a JustGiving page which has helped raise just over £1,000 for the charity.

Speaking about Niamh’s efforts, Northampton Academy Principal, Mr Jones, said: “Niamh demonstrates a great example for her fellow students and we’re extremely proud of her efforts. The hair donated will benefit those in need and to raise a fantastic amount of money alongside that is a brilliant show of her selflessness and character.”

Niamh’s proud Mum, Anna Marie, said: “We are extremely proud of Niamh, it’s something that she wanted to do out of the kindness of her own heart. We hope her fundraising efforts help inspire others to do the same as it can have long-lasting positive impact on people who may need it most.”
