Year 11 Parents Evening
Parents Evening for Year 11 students will be held on Thursday 9th January 2025 from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. The focus for the evening will be to discuss the progress that your child has made at Northampton Academy. Parents will have an opportunity to discuss specific areas of interest with individual subject teachers.
There will be free food served for families to enjoy from 4.00pm – 6.30pm in our canteen. We welcome as many families as possible to take up this offer. There will be a simple meat and vegetarian option on offer.
Students and parents will be able to experience a ‘Mock Results Day’ where students will receive their grades on the evening in an envelope, similar to what they will experience in August 2025. In order to receive the envelope with the grades, attendance to the evening is required. For those that cannot make the evening, these will be sent via post.
However, we do want students to experience the emotion of opening that envelope, the excitement, the nerves, and then the feeling of seeing and holding those results. This has proven in the past to be a great motivator into the next term, either as a catalyst to improve or to continue what they are doing knowing that they can reach their potential.
In order to have a successful parents evening there are several steps that you can take:
What should I do prior to the night?
1. Re-read the last school report as this gives the best picture of how your child is progressing in school. This will be emailed to you prior to the evening.
2. Talk to your child about each subject and find out what the particular areas for development or areas of concerns are. These questions and queries can be the start of the conversation with the teacher.
What questions should I ask the teacher?
1. If you have any questions or queries start with them as it is your opportunity to get these answered.
2. Behaviour for Learning – If this is 3 or lower on the report, this could provide a focus.
3. Home Learning – Ask how often you should expect it and what sort of tasks it may be.
4. Grades and Progress – If there is a difference between expected and attained then ask why there is?
5. Effort – If this is a 3 or lower on the report you need to discuss ideas on how to improve attitudes to learning?
6. Prediction - Is my child making enough progress to achieve their target grade?
