On Thursday 5th December, we took some Year 13 students to the Angela Grace Care home. They spent about an hour with them helping some of the residents decorate Christmas cards and delivered a Christmas card for each resident.
The Student Leadership Team wanted to do an activity that had community at the core. They decided to run a Christmas card competition for whole school to take part in, with the five winning designs printed and cards given to local care homes.
The students then contacted some care homes, to see if we can deliver cards which they are currently organising. However, upon talking with the Angela Grace Care home, a small group were invited in to take part in an activity to help residents decorate cards. Residents at the care home have varying stages of Dementia, some were able to chat, whilst there were some residents who were non-verbal.
Speaking about the visit, Mrs Le-Grys said: “The students were amazing. They immediately went to the residents, and sat with them, talking with them, helping them decorate cards. It was really lovely to see. As Head of Year, both Mr Campbell and I, are incredibly proud of our students, they really demonstrated our school value of Respect. They showed a great deal of empathy and kindness when sitting with the residents.”
Will said “It was really nice to interact with and meet the residents at the care home and it made me feel like I was doing something truly positive for not just the local but also our wider community. If given the chance, I would definitely do it again.”
