Sometimes You Have to Be a Little Bit Naughty if You Want to Change Your Story.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. is adapted from the full-length musical, which was based on the book by Roald Dahl, and features a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The show opened on the West End in 2011 and made its Broadway premiere in 2013. The musical earned seven Olivier Awards, including “Best New Musical,” and five Tony awards, including The Tony for “Best Book of a Musical.”
Originally slated for three performances (one primary school-only matinee plus two public evening performances), we have decided to add a third evening show after being blown away by the level of talent auditioning for roles, leading us to cast both Kelsey Owen and Anya Taylor-Warrick as our two Matilda’s who will perform for two shows each. The evening performances will take place on the 18th, 19th and 20th of April 2023, and tickets will be available shortly.
Mr Lyon, Head of Drama, said:
“It has been a long time since Northampton Academy has decided to put on a full musical. We were blown away by the number of applicants we had for the show and were even more taken aback by the raw talent within our school. We have had applicants from Years 7 to 12 and this really will show the absolute best of Northampton Academy. We are all very excited to work on this show and delve back into ambitious productions. This will become the platform for a performing arts resurgence.”
