After achieving a runners-up place in the summer NHS, 'You Name It! Art Competition', Gracie H was awarded the prize of meeting Clinical Radiographer Ben Elstob. Gracie's ambition is to be a Radiographer, and meeting Ben provided an excellent opportunity to find out more about his role.
Gracie's ambition is to be a Radiographer, and meeting Ben provided an excellent opportunity to find out more about his role. Gracie was able to put questions to Ben, including: "Which other health professionals do you work with?" and "Which skills and qualities would I need to develop to do your job?" Ben advised Gracie to focus on learning as much about the body and bone structure as possible. He also recommended shadowing a Radiographer once she was old enough to apply for the programme.
After the session, Gracie concluded:
"My experience of talking to Ben has helped me to decide what I want to do in the future. Ben inspired me after hearing him confirm how much he enjoys what he does. Even when his days are tough, he still gets through the day and ensures patients feel safe and welcome. Thank you for the experience". After being presented with her award, she added: "I enjoyed entering the competition. I didn't think I would come runner up! But the reward was an amazing opportunity. It was an amazing opportunity to speak to a radiologist and gave me a great insight into my future career, and I'd like to thank everyone involved!"
Organiser Laura Watts said:
"It was a pleasure to receive Gracie's entry for the 'You Name It! Art Competition' to name Northamptonshire's new health and care career academy website. I can see that great thought and time went into Gracie's design. It showcased the pride Gracie takes in her work, the positive and compassionate views she takes of the NHS, and its care to the local community. Thank you, Gracie."
Northampton Academy Careers Department would like to thank Ben Elstob for generously giving his time and Laura Watts, Project Manager, Northamptonshire Health & Care Partnership, for organising the session.
