A group of Year 7 students have been learning about healthy eating as part of their life skills lessons, bringing the topic alive by staging their own version of the hit Channel 4 show “Come Dine With Me”.
The learning objective was to identify food from the different food groups, their benefits and ideal proportions required for a healthy diet and to explain the consequences of consuming too much fat and sugar.
Students embraced the project, going above and beyond what was asked of them, designing beautiful menus and creative table layouts. All the menus included three courses and contained foods from each food group in healthy proportions. The students enjoyed this project and impressed Mr Parnell when he stopped by to see the setting and chat to them about what they had learned.
Teacher Mrs Ridgard said, “This project fits in well with the school’s 'Education with Character' initiative, nurturing important life lessons in a creative way. The students have shown real determination and enthusiasm whilst working on this project”.
