Matt Lipsey, British television and film director visited Northampton Academy to speak to our Year 10 GCSE Drama students.
Matt’s credits include directing ‘The Boy in the Dress’ and ‘Billionaire Boy’. In 2005 he was presented with a British Academy Television Award for his work directing the second series of Little Britain.
Part of the Careers Department’s aim is to ensure that every student develops a broad understanding of the pathways that are available in a range of industries. By having professionals like Matt visit the school, who are willing to share stories of their own challenges and successes, we aim to equip the next generation with the tools to explore, develop and succeed.
From filming short films using his Dad’s Super 8, Matt progressed to the Royal College of Art and from there to a career directing comedy. Matt imparted the importance of hard work, resilience (especially if considering acting as a career) and gaining as much work experience as possible, as a way of maximising your potential. He stressed that it is important for each young person to use their initiative, especially in the world of the arts, as your first job might be one you yourself have created.
Our thanks to the Directors Charitable Foundation who organised this event for us and to Matt for giving his time and experience so generously.
