Delia's Story
Attended Northampton Academy 2021 - 2019
Delia completed her A Level studies with us in 2019. She then transferred to the University of Hertfordshire to study International Business with a Language. Having studied Spanish at GCSE and A Level, Delia opted for a year abroad as part of her degree, and she now resides in Madrid. Delia generously offered to return to the Academy to share her experiences with our current Year 12 students, during a short visit back to the UK. Delia confirmed that her love of 'travelling, exploring different cultures and learning new languages' inspired her to spend a year abroad.
Year 12 students heard about the challenges of moving away from home, adjusting to new situations, and learning to become independent. They also learned about the opportunities available, the fantastic people Delia has met, and the obstacles she has overcome over the past three years.
Delia said: "My main piece of advice would be to adequately research the universities you are applying to, whether it's your firm or insurance choice. I didn't put enough thought into my choices, especially my insurance choice. This meant I felt a little defeated when I didn't get a place at my top university. This mindset followed me through my first year of uni. I didn't enjoy it as much as uni students should, and I regret it because I won't be getting that year back.
I know we are currently going through a global pandemic, but I urge you to try and make the most of your university experience if that is what you are planning to do. However, if you do not think university is for you, do your research about the type of thing you would be interested in. There are many options, including degree apprenticeships or going straight into work."
