We have 3 well-subscribed African drumming ensembles in school. These all rehearse before school from 8am-8.30am (meet at A block door). Everyone is welcome – from beginners to experts!
We learn everything from memory, and most commonly use traditional rhythms, although sometimes we have been known to compose our own!
All the groups enjoy performing regularly in assemblies and performance evenings. As well as this, we have taken our drums far and wide, performing in locations such as Canterbury Cathedral, and All Saints in Northampton.
Each year, a selection of students visits local primary schools to teach the year 6 students how to play the drums. The Academy students act as teachers and help to lead the session. These workshops have proved very popular, and we are visiting more schools each year!
