Students at the Academy have the opportunity to learn several different instruments with specialist teachers from the music service.
Each lesson lasts for 20 minutes per week, and we work on a timetable of 11 lessons each term. Lessons happen throughout the school day, and times are rotated, so that students don’t regularly miss the same classroom subject. Therefore, students are required to check the timetable on the board outside classroom A2 regularly so they can ensure they attend their lesson on time.
Students can choose whether to learn individually, or to be paired with a learning partner of a similar standard by their teacher.
Lessons Available:

Lesson Guidelines:
- Students can either provide their own instrument, or may be able to borrow one from the County Music Service - as advised by the teacher
- Students must be prepared to practise on their instrument, either at home, or by booking practice rooms at the Academy during school time.
- Students must make sure their subject teacher is aware of their instrumental lesson time at the beginning of the lesson.
- Students should leave their instrument in the coded cupboard in the Music Department when at school
- Students must take their instrument home on the day of the lesson - it is not advisable to leave them overnight.
- Once a student has reached a fair standard on their instrument, they will be expected to join a school ensemble.
- If there is too much demand for an instrument, a waiting list will be started.
- A notice period of half a term, which should be submitted in writing to the finance office is required to stop lessons. Otherwise full payment will be incurred.
